An eye on Marina’s ‘grotesque spectacle’
Thanks to Poppy for posting something on Facebook about the row between Yvonne Rainer and Marina Abramovic. There’s more background on it here and here. And reviews that seem to back up Rainer’s point here and here.
It raises lots of interesting questions about what we’d do for some exposure / work / cash, what changes when an individual work made at a particular time and place is reproduced by someone else in a different frame, the responsibility of an artist to their collaborators, the relationship between artists and sponsors etc etc.

art is a collective space for dream . If enough artists took responsibility not to dream the capitalist dream this kind of thing would look even more stupid than it is, isn’t that the very least we can do?
